“Happy with you children, for today you are going to receive Jesus in the form of bread and wine.” Fr. Edwin Peter said this to the 26 First Holy Communion candidates at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, dressed in their best white attires, beaming with smile.
Presiding at the Sunset Mass on 4th November 2017, with Fr. George Harrison from Seremban as con-celebrant, Fr. Edwin said to the children, “Before you receive Jesus, ask God for forgiveness and from one another. Jesus is our friend and doesn't condemn us, but doesn't love bad actions.” The theme of the day was ‘Jesus Is My Friend’. Days earlier, the children received their Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Drawing similarity to the gospel and the theme of the day, Fr. Edwin in his homily touched on the topic of friendship, telling the children that Jesus is your friend because Jesus protects, cares and helps you. In Matthew 18:14, Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me”, because He loves you. Today, He wants to give you something special. He wants to give you Holy Communion. As food and drink is necessary for our physical wellbeing, so is the Body and Blood of Christ, which is food for our soul. Jesus loves you so much that He gives His life for you and me. The bread and wine is the Body and Blood of Christ (after consecration by the priest). Fr. Edwin mentioned that when we come for Mass, we remember that Jesus died for us and today, He comes to us in the Eucharist.
After thanking and acknowledging the presence of Fr. George on that day, to attend his nephew’s Holy Communion, Communicants together with their parents and clergy assembled in Dewan Louis Guittat for a cake cutting ceremony, and to receive their certificates. The Communicants also received a Rosary and hand gift.
