The prominent Sunway Velocity Mall at Jalan Peel, which just opened last December, once again invited the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SHC) to spread the message of Christmas through its caroling group.
Approximately 40 children from the parish which formed the Children’s Choir, boys and girls from different ethnicities, donned their best red and white attires, gathered at the mall on 2nd and 3rd December, from 7.30pm to 8pm, and joyfully sang six classic Christmas carols, with Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer being the highlight.
With the children taking center-stage, SHC parish priest, Fr. Edwin Peter together with teachers, parents, and fellow parishioners were present to show their support. With the charismatic Gerry Alfonso as Choir Conductor, accompanied by organist Monica Madonna, these little ones gave their all under the watchful eyes of coordinators, Caroline Xavier and Jane Carol Fernando. Given the opportunity to cultivate an appreciation for music, the SHC Children’s choir sang their hearts out as they delivered positive messages through song. As the children started to sing, many shoppers made a quick stop to watch them perform. It was also interesting to see some joining in and singing along. As the choir gave their best till the very last note, the crowd cheered on and gave them a thunderous applause.
Christmas seemed to come early, for that moment. But, the message of Christ our Saviour, through the carols, did indeed send out the true and precise message to correct any wrong perception for the reason of the season, that Christmas is about Christ, and not Santa.
As Christians observe Advent, the spiritual preparation towards Christmas; and as we wait to celebrate the Nativity of Jesus Christ, the spirit of Christmas seems to be catching on.
If you missed watching the SHC Children’s Choir perform last week,
do mark 8th and 10th December on your calendars,
and drop by the Sunway Velocity Mall
