COMPASSION IS UNDERSTANDING THE TROUBLES OF OTHERS
KUALA LUMPUR:-The feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus continues with Day 2,on June 7, 2018 focusing on COMPASSION.
Fr Lawrence Ng CDD was the preacher at the evening Mass, who quoted several scripture texts about Jesus compassion; and said the Gospel Reading today stated that you have to love God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul and with all your strength.
This can be put all together in compassion, as revealed in Matthew 9:36 "When He (Jesus) saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Fr Ng said this is strong evidence. Can be construct that Jesus has compassion for the lost. Jesus is always moved with compassion for others.
The Religious priest went on to quote yet another scripture text from Mark 1:41 where .."Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, "I am willing; be cleansed." The leprosy man have full confident in Jesus Christ, saying to Jesus, if You want, You can make me clean. "Touched with the Saviour hand, the man was healed".
"The Lord's compassion as He wish to touch with his hand to heal the man with leprosy", added Fr Ng.
Fr Ng reiterated that Jesus is always present in the Blessed Sacrament. He is present among us and feels us in many ways.
The CDD Priest who was ordained a priest in February 2009, more than nine years ago shared about how the numerous people came lining up after his Ordination Mass, for personal blessing. It took some two hours long. Fr Ng said his hands 'become power hands'. Even until now, people come to him after Mass asking to bless them. Some said they got exams tomorrow or got surgery tomorrow, in need of blessing. 'The Lord is going to miraculously deliver us'.
Jesus teaches compassion. In addition to His personal examples. The Samaritan story, where the Jewish lawyer asked who is my neighbour? The parable of the Good Samaritan must move us with compassion. (It is a parable told by Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. It is about a traveler (Jew) who is stripped of clothing, beaten, and left half dead alongside the road. First a priest and then a Levite comes by, but both avoid the man. Finally, a Samaritan came and helps the injured Jew. Samaritans and Jews generally despised each other). Jesus tells the parable, the conclusion of which is that the neighbour figure in the parable is the man who shows mercy and compassion to the injured man:that is, the Samaritan).
Fr Ng said for us, maybe our neighbour, we didn't see for long time. You may go to work; he or she might still be sleeping and vice versa.
The religious priest also said that he remember whilst serving in Seremban before, someone came asking him for money to go back hometown. The priest didn't brought any money. Fr Ng told someone to buy transport ticket for the person to go back. That's being compassion.
Fr Ng also mentioned about the parable of The Prodigal Son ( Luke 15:11-32),to explain the process of conversion and reconciliation. He said compassion can bridge the gap between them.'Compassion is understanding the troubles of others. Put yourself in people's shoes to know how they feel'.
Quoting from St Paul( Colossians 3:12)."Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience", Fr Ng said bear one another and forgive each other."As we show compassion to others, we will be pointing others to the One who is Jesus, who shown us His compassion through His crucifixion.
Fr Ng told the assembly that the heart of grace and compassion is the Heart of Jesus. "Not just talk, but walk the talk to be compassionate to others.
In ending his homily, Fr Ng shown to all a short video music clip, titled: "God of Mercy and Compassion". He asked all to listen and reflect upon it.
The Mass was celebrated by Fr Ng and con-celebrated with Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish priest, Fr Edwin Peter and his assistant, Fr Simon Lau. P.Deacon Sandnasamy Peter assisted.
