BE THE BEACON OF CHRIST’S LIGHT TO OTHERS

Kuala Lumpur:– Rev Fr Christopher W. Soosaipillai, the parish priest of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus called on his parishioners to become beacons of Christ’s light to others. He emphasized this at the homily on the weekend Masses of Jan 24 & 25,2015.

While sharing about what transpired during the recent Clergy Annual Pastoral Assembly (CAPA) held in Port Dickson from Jan 20-22, Fr Chris said what concerned the local Church is the lack of efforts of evangelisation- to reach out to others. Another concerned of the Presbyterian is the diminishing or getting smaller the number of clergy or priests, especially in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur; that needed to care for the pastoral needs of the growing Catholic population.

Noting the lack of young priests, as most are now in their 40s, 50s and 60s, Fr Chris said he has been encouraging and praying for more vocations to the priesthood. He added that on Sunday Jan 25,2015 the Archdiocese Vocation Promotion Team (AVPT) will be at the Church of the Assumption in Petaling Jaya to create more awareness to the priesthood and religious life and hope to attract some young people to this noble vocations. He asked the congregation to pray earnestly and continuously for more vocations.

Touching on evangelisation efforts, Fr Chris said the Peninsular Malaysia Church has long agreed in 1976 to have the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) that is small groups of Catholics converging to meet once a month for Word sharing to deepen their faith and to reach out in mission.

Fr Chris said as Christians we need to reach out and share and witness our faith to others. “We must become the beacon of light to others”

Recently other religion groups have appeared to be very vocal, competitively and vigorously promoting their religion to the non-Muslims in public streets. Fr Chris told the assembly that we must not be just comfortable in our one hour of worship weekly; but the need to be more proactive in our faith by witnessing and sharing our faith in God to others, especially those seeking and searching for God and those looking for answers to life.
