Catholics Joined Other Faiths At Deepavali Meet

KUALA LUMPUR:- Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam together with some 30 Catholics residing nearby attended an early celebration in conjunction to Deepavali, organized by the Persatuaan Pembangunan Akhlak Kg Pandan , an NGO, on October 23. Held at Ruang Legar Pasar Wirawati in Taman Maluri, which is adjacent

next to Kampung Pandan. A total of some 700 Malaysians from the different ethnicity and faiths were present. The guests of honour were YB Datuk Seri Tengku Adenan who is the Federal Territories Minister; YB Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani, the Finance Minister II and who is also the Member of Parliament for Titiwangsa and YB Senator Dato Dr Loga Bala Mohan, who is the Deputy Federal Territories Minister.

The other community leaders present were Stephen Arokiasamy the Chairman of the Kg Pandan Chapel Committee, the Hindu and Sikh Temples chairmen and Kg Pandan Mosque chairman. The organiser then invited Archbishop Emeritus Pakiam and the three members of Parliament- Tengku Adenan, Datuk Johari and Dato’Loga, with TM Padmanathan who is the Chairman of Persatuan Pembangunan Akhlak Kg Pandan, to come on stage to light the kutuvilaku, officially marking the celebration.

The guests and all those present were feted with dinner, enjoying the sumptuous Indian delicacies and food and other local cuisine; while being entertained with songs and cultural dances on the makeshift stage. The guests of honour also distributed hampers and handouts to the poor and less privileged, that were also present.
