Confirmation…the affirmation of faith

It was a memorable day for the 50 Confirmands who received the Sacrament of Confirmation in conjunction with the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity at the Sunset Mass, on June 10, 2017. The Confirmation Mass at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Jalan Peel was celebrated by His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow, with parish priest Fr. Edwin Peter as concelebrant. Family, friends, relatives and well-wishers filled pews to witness these young Catholics affirm for themselves the faith they have been baptized into.(Image)

After Fr. Edwin proclaimed the Gospel (John 3:16-18), Archbishop Julian Leow addressed the Confirmands and parishioners; shedding light on the concept and mystery of the Holy Trinity – Father who generates, the Son who is begotten and the Holy Spirit who proceeds. “The relationship of Father, Son and Holy Spirit is a community in love; with mercy, tenderness, compassion and kindness. All these are virtues of the Holy Trinity, united in majesty, full of mercy. We are followers of Jesus. Today, you Confirmands will receive the sacrament in the fullness of God, not one-third. The Holy Spirit will help each one of you to grow in perfection and to acknowledge that Jesus is the Saviour.” His Grace added. Confirmands were also reminded to continue sharing and reflecting God’s love, spreading His Gospel. Archbishop Leow went on to say that we must share this love of God in our Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC). And pray that the Holy Spirit will strengthen Confirmands as they walk with the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; journeying in faith and growing in perfection, in mercy and compassion towards one another. The Rite of Confirmation then ensued.

After Mass, Fr. Edwin thanked His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow for celebrating Mass, and for blessing the Confirmands. He congratulated the newly Confirmed, thanking their parents and godparents, for continuing their journey of faith with Confirmands. In his speech, Archbishop Leow also thanked all faith formators. “This is not the end, but the start of your adult faith journey.” the prelate told the 50 Confirmands.

The celebration ended with fellowship dinner for Confirmands, together with their near and dear family and friends. As they received their Confirmation certificates, we wish them a strengthened and enriched Christian life, sealed with the Holy Spirit.
