KUALA LUMPUR:- The feast of Our Lady of Good Health began on a stupendous and spiritual filled atmosphere on Sept 1, 2017 evening. At the entrance of Lorong 1, where the chapel is situated, the faithful will be welcome by an archway erected specially for the duration of the 10 days celebrations.(Image)
The annual feast at the Chapel of Our Lady of Good Health (OLGH) in Kampung Pandan saw some 700 faithful from far and near converged to witness the flag raising ceremony on Day one, held in the chapel’s grounds. Capuchin priest Fr Sebastian from Chennai, India together with physically challenged parishioner Stella Francis hoisted the OLGH flag to make the start of the feast celebration. Chapel Administrator who is also the parish priest of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Jalan Peel, Fr Edwin Peter was also present.
Rosary and Novena to our Lady of Good Health then preceded back in the chapel. The 7pm Mass in English and Tamil was presided by Fr Sebastian and Fr Edwin. The Theme was “Be Devoted”. The focus was on Caregiver. This year anchored or overall theme was “Mary Make Me A Disciple of HOPE”.
Fr Sebastian in his opening address, after the Entrance Hymn told the assembly that they came here to express their faith, to show your faith in God and asking Mother Mary to intercedes for us.
In his homily, Fr Sebastian narrated on a true story about how a person who was travelling from Paris to Lourdes in France in 1891 met an accident and was hospitalized and he became paralyzed. He who do not believe in God was persuaded by his friends to be taken to Lourdes for healing. After much efforts, the man relented. Upon arriving at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, he was taken for the Lourdes Bath. The water which flows from a spring in the Grotto of Massabielle in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, France. The apparition of Mother Mary on February 25, 1858. Since that time many thousands of pilgrims to Lourdes have followed the instruction of Our Lady of Lourdes to “drink at the spring and bathe in it”.
And miracle happened. The paralyzed man was recovered and he became a believer in the Lord and have hope in Mother Mary. Fr Sebastian told the assembly when you pray without second thought, you will receive what you asked.
“Give your hand to Mary when you pray, trusting and hoping in her intercessions. She is there for us, to help us in our sorrows, to pray for our needs to God; ask Mother Mary to make us true disciples of Jesus Christ “.
Fr Sebastian added that Jesus choose who suppose to be His Mother. Mary as our mother too. Be devoted.
During the Prayer of the Faithful, Fr Edwin told the assembly to pray for all caregivers who are devoted to their care for the sick 24/7 and those in home-bound.
After Mass ended, Fr Edwin introduced Fr Sebastian to the assembly. Fr Sebastian who is studying here in Putrajaya since February 2017 for a two year programme, was invited to preach at the feast day. Fr Edwin also thank all for coming here, citing The Shrine of Our Lady of Vailankanni (Good Health),in India also known as the “Lourdes of the East”, where the chapel got its name.
Fr Edwin said those care for the sick, those having home-bound and those who are as caregivers and others. Pray for them. He also said more details of the parish newly setup ‘Assist Ministry’, can be found in Herald Sept 3 issue.
The Chapel Administrator also said as Sept 1 is the First Friday; devotion to the Sacred Heart, holy hour will start immediately, where the focus being devoted and being caregiver and being disciples of hope. Some 250 faithful stayed back for an hour, with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the Altar. Later at the end, Benediction was held.
All were feted for a simple dinner fellowship in the chapel’s grounds, where Ponggal rice, cooked by parishioners (led by BEC St Peter) earlier in the day, and curry puffs and tosai was shared by all.
