Be Rooted In The Word Of God

KUALA LUMPUR:– The evening Mass on Jan 26, 2018 at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was celebrated by Fr Paul Cheong, OFM Cap and assisted by Deacon Simon Lau. Some 80 parishioners were present.

Deacon Simon who proclaimed the Gospel also preached the homily. He said the Gospel (Mark 4:26-34) today tells us two parables, same meaning but different perspectives, namely seed and Kingdom of God. The first parable, man sow the seed and doesn’t know how it grows. The chemical reaction we really don’t know. Day and night plant grows. Deacon Simon said the seed symbolize Word of God. In Malaysia context what type of seed we plant? He said it could be say durian, papaya or mango, for example. The Word of God given to us. God speaks to us differently. Some receive durian, papaya, mango, different fruits. Some of us received Word of God, we produce good fruits, like durian where many people attracted to it.

“Jesus tells us not by human efforts, but we think we can manage to build Kingdom of God by using human efforts of the world but we forgotten that it is by the Spirit, because without the Holy Spirit, the seed cannot grow”.

Deacon Simon said the understanding about God, we know is small like a small mustard seed but as long it comes from God, the Word of God planted in us,each of us has a calling, different vocation. No matter how small it is, it will become big (grow big),like the birds take shade under this tree.

We also need to see the soil. The other parable talks about the soil, good soil or rocky soil .What type of soil are we?. We receive Word of God and go for Bible Study, chapter by chapter and book by book. To a certain extend we know the Bible, but this is not important . We something think we are more clever than Word of God. But what really is important is the Word must be rooted in us. If our soil, our heart is cement or rocky, it doesn’t grow.

Listen to the Word of God. How we take it and how we allow it to grow in us.

Deacon Simon also said today is the memorial of Sts Timothy and Titus.Timothy became bishop and he allow the Word of God grow within him . Became famous evangelist and Word of God spread in minor Asia.

The deacon invited the assembly to imitate Timothy and reflect how we treat the Word of God and ask God to open our heart and to plough our soil in our hearts. “Be rooted in the Word”.
