KUALA LUMPUR: “Imitate the love of Jesus. Be that heart of Jesus. Be that heart that loves, be that heart that cares.”
Fr Christopher W. Soosaipillai said this at the evening Mass celebrating the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 11, the culmination of the feast day triduum at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In view of the current restrictions on public gatherings, this year’s celebrations were live-streamed via sacredheartkl’s YouTube channel. The actual feast day Mass generated 5,100 views.
Expounding on the sub-theme Sacred Heart of Jesus, Foundation of Unconditional Love, Fr Chris said that the statue of the Sacred Heart with His outstretched hands symbolizes Jesus’ unlimited and unconditional love. This love came from His Father. Jesus gave us blessings and love from the Father, and also from Mary, who nurtured Jesus in her womb.
Fr Chris, the parish priest of the Good Shepherd Church in Setapak, urged everyone to wake up and experience the love of the Heart of Jesus and in turn become a joy to others. We are called to imitate Jesus and to love totally as He did. The lance pierced His side, and blood and water gushed out in a fountain of unconditional love and mercy. “Pray you will experience Jesus’ unconditional love and embrace His love and become the heart of Jesus to others. Have a forgiving heart. Look at your neighbors and share the love. If we have the heart and love of Jesus in us, we will be able to do good and reject all negativity. Pray for others and bring goodness to them,” Fr Chris concluded.
The was also a short Eucharistic Exposition after Mass, which concluded with Benediction.
The concelebrant, Fr Simon Lau, who is also the SHJ Assistant Parish priest, in his short address thanked God for making this celebration possible, even though different (no physical gathering in church). On behalf of Fr Edwin Peter and Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam, he thanked Fr Chris and all involved in this celebration, and everyone at home. “We still celebrate as one parish and as one community.”
On Day 1 of the Triduum (June 9), Fr Albert Arockiasamy was the preacher with the sub-theme Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sanctuary of Hope. On Day 2 of the Triduum (June 10), Fr Clement Lim preached on the sub-theme Sacred Heart of Jesus, Drawn to Thee With Complete Trust.
