An inter-faith iftar themed One Humanity, One Unity, One Equality was held at the Masjid Negara on April 19, 2022. The head of Masjid Negara Education and Training Islamic Outreach ABIM Centre, Ustaz Dr Sayyid Hussain Abdeen, hosted the gathering.
Present were Ecclesiastical Assistant of the Archdiocesan Ministry of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs (AMEIA) and the Church of the Visitation, Seremban, parish priest, Fr Andrew Xavier, and the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Ministry of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs (PMEIA) coordinator, Dr Florence John, and ten representatives from the parish.
While Fr Andrew spoke on the Season of Lent, the Christian virtue of fasting, and the joy of Easter, Ustaz Dr Sayyid shared the values of Islamic fasting.
The Catholic entourage toured the mosque before joining their hosts in breaking fast at 7.21pm. Hopefully, events like this will help enhance interreligious dialogue and ‘build bridges’ between Christians and Muslims in the country.
