The World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Clergy takes place every year on the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Mass presided by Archbishop Julian Leow, joined together by 10 other priests, Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam and the newly ordained Deacon Selva from the Diocese of Kuala Lumpur, the Sanctification of Clergy celebration took place in the Church of The Sacred Heart of Jesus, Kuala Lumpur on 16th June 2023. His Grace speaks about God’s love. He explained God’s love is unlike the secular love we are familiar that is conditional, instead it is unconditional. Every pain suffered by the rejected, betrayed, would be magnified due to the existence of true love. He concluded that God’s model of steadfast and unconditional love is our perfect model of true love.
Many faithful came to honour and pray for the priests who have dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Holy Orders. The Church is invoked to pray for all priests to stay faithful to their vocation.
On these day also, the anointing of the sick took place during the Mass. Many venerable elderly and unwell people were brought to be anointed.
As we continue to pray for Vocations and Religious life, we may take a moment to thank all those priests who have walked with us on the journey…to those who have prayed with us, celebrated with us, wept with us, forgiven us, uplifted us, hoped with us…to those who have told us again and again, “God loves you”. Let the love of Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart of Mary be our models of love as we carry our wounds and heartache to continue our pilgrimage life to heal our brokenness
