Comprises of the Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus located at Jalan Peel and the Chapel of Our Lady of Good Health at Lorong Satu, Kampong Pandan. These represent a nucleus of people worshiping together between the bustling Shopping Complexes around Velocity and the heritage urban village around Kg Pandan.
Inaugurated as a parish in 1960, it has an ability of bringing together people of diverse cultural backgrounds. The parish church was built by those who served in the Government Service and lived in the government quarters surrounding Peel Road. The chapel which was built earlier was built on the goodwill of our early settlers who lived in the Indian Settlement in Kampong Pandan.
Living in the surrounding areas that encompasses the Parish, we are blessed with 29 BECs within the 7 Zones. This includes the Tamil and Mandarin Apostolates. There is also a growing number of East Malaysians who are starting to make their homes within the parish structure.
The church at Jalan Peel has over the years brought die hard devotees of the Sacred Heart of Jesus who come in reparation and thanksgiving. The Devotion to the Sacred Heart is one of the oldest devotion in the universal church. This takes place every first Friday of the month. On other Fridays there is Mass with the recitation of the chaplet to the Sacred Heart. The annual feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus takes place in June. At its yearly feast prayers are offered for the Sanctification of Priests. Since its inception till to date, the parish has been blessed with the many foreign and local clergy who served the Parish diligently with love and dedication.
The other main attraction is the feast of Our Lady of Good Health at the chapel, which has been transformed into a pilgrimage site, praying for good health, which attracts hundreds to its grounds during the feast (celebrated in the first week of September). Every Saturday mornings’ rosary prayers and Mass are offered for the sick. At other normal times the faithful and people of other faiths come to find solace in the warm and loving arms of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
The St Francis Xavier Home for the Elderly, run by the Little Sister of the Poor is located within the parish boundaries. The parish has at all times reached out to the poor, the marginalize, the migrants, the homeless, the sick and differently able people, the lonely and abandon and the elderly who have found comfort. The Society of St Vincent de Paul of our parish runs a dialysis center located at Kampong Pandan.
Every walk of life has found a loving place within the confines of the various parish ministries. These together with the people at large in the parish and especially in the BECs are always on mission serving with Hope and Love and living the Faith in gratitude and thanksgiving.
