KUALA LUMPUR: On 24th September 2022, The Tamil Apostolate Youth Ministry of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus organized Youth Day – F3 (Faith, Fellowship and Fun). The event’s main purpose was to educate youths about Jesus’ life and foster relationships through fun and games. A total of 15 people from ages 14 – 24 participated in the activities that consisted of station games.
The event commenced with an opening prayer by Esther Nancy. After that, the organizing team briefed the participants about some general rules. Team members, Jennifer Anne and Sharon Priya demonstrated the games which included charades, musical chairs, and Parable stories.
Sister Jacinta, Sister Josephine and Sister Laura from the Archdiocesan Single Adults and Youth Office Kuala Lumpur (ASAYOKL) acted as chaperons throughout the event. After the games, Sister Laura shared about ASAYO and its goals to uplift and empower young people as active members of the parish. The participants gave their input and suggested brilliant ideas for improving the church’s Youth Ministry. Brother Benedict Charles, who oversaw the event, presented the prizes to the winning teams.
Participant Samantha Anne enjoyed the session saying, “It was an amazing experience, I have been to other gatherings before but I never felt comfortable enough to talk to anyone except to my inner circle but during this event I was comfortable to have a conversation with everyone and the youths who organized the event were all very friendly and warm. In conclusion I will say that this is hands down the most fun youth gathering event I have been to and I’m so glad that they took the time and initiative to organize the event to expand our church’s youth community”.
Committee member, Chantelle felt alive coming back to serve saying, “Personally, as I have been a bit distant and distracted by the calling of the world, coming back to serve the Lord in little ways keeps me whole and alive. It reminds me how coming together as one to praise and worship him is all that matters at the end of the day. Being a small part of encouraging these young ones to encounter God in many ways brings joy, peace and happiness in ways that I fail to realize. To conclude that, through journeying with all of the fellow youths it is a constant reminder to have faith that no matter what happens, that God always has a plan, and it always works out for the better”. Overall, Youth Day – F3 was a successful endeavor as the Youth Ministry flourished with additional members and lifelong friends. The organizers would like to thank Parish Priest Monsignor Stanislaus Soosamariam, parishioners of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and everyone who helped make this event possible. – By Isabel Andrew
