Kuala Lumpur – The PIHDM KL South District celebrates the 7th World Day of the Poor in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, KL. Pope Francis has chosen the theme ‘Do not turn your face away from anyone who is poor’ (Tobit 4:7). The first district event was held in the parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus, KL on 19th November 2023. His Grace Most Rev Julian Leow, Fr Michael Simon, Dr. Iylen, Dr. Nora, dentist Dr. Ezekiel, and Dr. Joseph came to witness and support this event. Mass was animated by the host joined in by the Church of the Holy Family, Khang, and Church of the St Francis Assisi. During the offertory, the 3 parishes brought in gifts such as by grocery hamper, rice, and cooking oil. 90 people benefited from mobile clinic and dental screening which was carried out at the parish hall after the mass. Brunch fellowships for 100 urban poor people were also served. There were Breakfast sales run by Grade 6 & 7 Myanmar children from Hans International School to gain some funds. In addition, the Women’s Ministry did a mini bazaar at the cover link area with many items sold to all who attended there. There was also a Career talk by Mr. Raymond Das. It was a fruitful event it brought awareness to many who are struggling within our community and the chances we have to support each other.
